Unbuilt: Columbia Campus Expansion Plan (1966)

This plan provoked considerable opposition when it came out. The buildings just south of campus between Broadway and Amsterdam would have been Columbia College dormitories, the buildings west of Broadway would have been for the School of Social Work, the building east of Amsterdam at 116th St. would have been for the School of Architecture, and the towers of East Campus would have been graduate housing. It is a great sign of progress that no neighborhood-shredding plan like this would ever be considered today.
