Restaurants like this one pay the city
for permission to glass in sections of the sidewalk. Community Board 9
has repeatedly asked the city to do something about this monster, which
crowds this already-congested intersection. It was constructed illegally
as a permanent structure on the basis of a permit for a temporary
one. The restaurant belongs to a chain that has political pull, so nothing
has been done. This establishment also has a number of repulsive health-code
violations, as you can see if you go look at the NYC Dept. of Health's
web site.
