Ivy

Certain kinds of climbing plants, which are not all technically ivy, are non-damaging for walls in good condition. Georgia creeper is harmless, though English Ivy is destructive, and nothing can be allowed on walls that don't need the trapped moisture. This building is the Mont Ceris, 54 Morningside Drive, and was built in 1907 to a design by Schwartz & Gross. Its finest feature is the way it disguises the fire escapes as balconies, making something attractive out of this usually unsightly necessity.
