Lobbying the City
These are some lobbying accomplishments of local residents over the last few years:
We successfully lobbied the Districting Commission to include nearly all
of Morningside Heights in one City Council district.
We helped secure a $10,000 grant for the West Side Recycling Center at the
Cathedral of Saint John the Divine.
We gathered more than 1,000 signatures demanding that Columbia not evict the
New York Public Library branch from its home on campus until a
temporary new location
is found. The new library will eventually be well-housed in a
new Columbia building.
We successfully lobbied for funds to construct a new branch of the Public
Library ($3.4 million in FY 1994).
Our Committee on the Environment submitted a critique of the City's recent
Solid Waste Disposal Plan.
We testified against the proposed Riverside South (Trump) project at hearings
held by Community Board 7, the Borough President and the City Council.
